How To Be More Talkative
How to be more talkative!
It’s a skill that I’m sure a lot of people want; being able to talk to infinity. This may especially be true if you’re more introverted and struggle to find the words to say sometimes. When you see all those cool people that are able to socialize with everyone, you just want to be able to emulate their skills!
But I’m here to tell you the truths and reality when it comes to being more talkative. As someone who has learned to socialize with everyone, I can tell you there are many things you should know. While being able to socialize is a great skills, it’s not the end all be all. It’s nice to have in your arsenal for sure, and today I will talk about being more talkative!
In this post, I’ll give you 5 things you should know on how to be more talkative. Whether you want to be able to socialize more easily or want to know what it’s like, I’m here to tell you what it’s all about. With these strategies in mind, you’ll be able to talk more while knowing when to do so.
Without further ado, let’s get started!
1. Being talkative is not always a good thing.
Yes, you may find it hard to believe but being a talkative person isn’t always the best thing to do. That’s the first point I want you to really understand. Always being talkative can be a negative trait to have.
I’ve certainly had my fair share of dealing with people who talk wayyyyyy too much. It can be annoying at best but narcissistic at worst. You can lose a lot of friends by always talking about yourself and not caring about what others have to say.
So while it’s helpful to be able to talk and socialize, you have to know when to shut up and let others talk! Which leads me to my next point…
2. Listening skills are more important.
I’m my opinion, listening skills will win you a lot more friends. People love someone who can listen to their stories, problems and their feelings. I do preach a lot about listening on this blog for food reasons. It’s such an important skill to have.
And the irony is that by being a good listener, it helps you become a better talker. Yes, the easiest way to be more talkative is by listening to what someone has to say and responding to that. For example, if someone is talking about their dating problems, you can be more talkative by relating to their dating experiences and perhaps giving them your opinions on their situation.
More is less and listening is a great way to be more talkative.
3. Be more curious with things in life.
In my experience, I found that having a genuine curiosity with things in life can help you become more talkative. I enjoy reading Wikipedia articles on random subjects, so that helps. By being open-minded to all sorts of various subjects and topics, it makes it a lot easier to talk to someone who is really into that certain topic.
For example, I myself am not really into car culture but have a basic understanding and curiosity about it. I’ve been driving cars for a while and I play racing games, so I have some understanding of cars and an open curiosity. So when I talk to a car enthusiast, I can be talkative to them about it and show genuine interest. I am always honest and admit that I’m not an expert on cars but always asking questions about it to that person, which makes it easy to talk to them.
So what I’m trying to say is that keeping an open mind and being curious about everything this world has to offer, that will make it easy to socialize with others and be more talkative.
4. Have stories ready to go.
Another way to be more talkative is by having stories and things to say in advance. This is something you can do for dating but it also works when trying to be more talkative with friends.
Alright, here are some stories you can think of in advance:
- Where you work or go to school (because everyone will ask you this)
- Your childhood/where you grew up
- Favorite foods, TV shows, movies
- Your hobbies
- Craziest and funniest experiences you’ve ever had
Now I want you to be careful with this, as I don’t want you to over rely on this method. Because always being too prepared for a conversation can seem robotic and ingenuine. I certainly felt that way when I would tell the same stories over and over again, and I’m sure the other person did as well.
So use your prepared stories and lines when you need them, but don’t depend on them for your entire conversations.
5. Improv!
Last but not least, we have a method that is in conventional but works really well in my opinion. You can take improv classes to better your talking skills. Improv teaches you how to think on your feet in order to make quick responses. The whole point is about improvising after all.
If you practice improv, it’ll help you to be more talkative without having to think! I’ve seen it with my friends who have taken improv, and it’s pretty awesome how fast and quick they can respond to pretty much anything in a conversation. Plus improv will teach you some good acting skills as well. 🙂
