5 cheap things to do with friends!

In this economy, it can be really hard enough to save up money. On top of that, going out these days is really expensive.

I remember hearing one of my coworkers telling me how he spent so much money just going out for movies and dinner with friends. He told me he spent over $100 on that night out! It is crazy (and maybe a bit sad) to know that a regular outing with friends can be so expensive. Activities such as going to sports games may be financially out of reach for you.

But not to fear! I am here to help you out. Because believe it or not, you can go out with your friends and not have to spend a lot of money. I will show you how.

In this post, I’ll give you 5 cheap things to do with friends. Whether you are financially strapped, or you want to save money, these activities will be fun with your friends without breaking the bank.

Why should you listen to me? Because I am damn good at being frugal! I’ve been doing that my whole life, so I have lots of experience saving money going out. It also helped that a lot of my friends didn’t have that much money to spend either.

Alright, let’s get started!

1. Hiking

Who doesn’t like a nice walk along the beach or mountains? I certainly love it and I’m sure your friends will too! Going for a walk or hike in your city is not only a great way to get some exercise, it’s also very budget-friendly. Most trails do not cost any money at all. Maybe the most popular and crowded hiking trails, you will have to pay a fee, but the fee is very small anyway.

So take your friends on a nice hike when all of you are off school/work and enjoy the outdoors while striking some good conversation along the way.

2. Video games

I certainly would know a lot about this! If you and your friends are into video games, then you have found yourselves a hobby that will save you a lot of money. You can do a video game night at your house, inviting friends over to play some of those fun video games you all love.

Of course, buying the video games may not be free. But there are plenty of sales and discounts to purchase video games at a much lower price. Believe me, there is a lot of fun and joy to be had with multiplayer video games with friends.

Here are some video games I recommend for great multiplayer experiences:

  • Mario Kart
  • Jackbox Games
  • Super Smash Bros
  • Mario Party
  • Guitar Hero and Rock Band
  • Fortnite

3. Cafe hangout

Who says hanging out with friends has to be extravagant and fancy? Not at all! Some of the best and most engaging things are a lot simpler. One of them being a hangout at a cafe near you guys.

All you have to do is bring your friends to a nice cafe, buy some cheap drinks like a coffee or latte, sit and relax and shoot the s for hours on end! Honestly this may sound boring on paper, but I’ve had some of the most fun moments with friends when we can really have a nice conversation without any distractions. Because a cafe is usually quiet and tranquil, it’s the perfect environment to get work done but also for connecting with friends.

So head on down to a Chatime or Starbucks with some friends and enjoy!

4. Sports

Sports is truly one of the best ways to bond with others, because it involves teamwork. Usually when we think of sports, we think of athletes. But you don’t need to be Patrick Mahomes or LeBron James to play sports with your friends; playing casually is totally different from playing professionally!

Whether it’s playing a fun game of frisbee or a casual game of basketball, there is a lot of fun to be had with sports. Volleyball is great during the summer, along with a casual game of catch. All you really need is a ball and you’re good to go. How cheap it is!

Of course, this is not medical advice and you and your friends should consult with a doctor first before doing so.

5. Visit free city attractions

Last but not least, if you and your friends live in a city, then you all should take advantage of the free city amenities. In this case, that would involve many of the attractions that are either free or low-cost.

I lived in a city pretty much my entire life and I can tell you that there are so many free activities you can take part in. Here are some examples:

  • Museums. A lot of museums either have a low admission fee or they’re free on certain days of the month. Take advantage of this!
  • Malls. Buying stuff at the mall costs money but window shopping does not! And you can always buy a cheap meal or drink at the food court.
  • Skating rink. You can rent some skates or bring your own and skate on the city rinks.
  • Art exhibits. I always see new art exhibits in cities that are free to view.
  • City parks. Parks are a great place to relax with your friends!

As you can see, if you live in a city with friends, there are TONS of things you can do with them that don’t cost a lot of money.

Summary

To summarize, here are 5 cheap things to do with friends:

  1. Hiking
  2. Video games
